JIM O. RHEAD, JR.

Chairman of the Board

Mr. Rhead has served as Chairman of the Board of Paragon since 1980. He came to Paragon in 1971 as Senior Vice President from Western Savings and Loan where he was Senior Vice President and Regional Manager in charge of all West Phoenix and Tucson branches, encompassing 75% of all loan generation. In 1977 certain officers of Paragon bought the company from Western Savings and Loan. Mr. Rhead spearheads all expansion efforts for the company and is well versed in hotel operations and real estate development. During his tenure with Paragon he has been responsible for acquiring, selling, building, and developing more than seventy hotels, apartment complexes, office buildings, and luxury resorts. He received his BA and MBA degree from the University of Utah where he played basketball for four years on a scholarship and helped to take his team to the Final Four. He remains active and participates in more than one senior basketball league at present. Mr. Rhead has been affiliated with the American Hotel & Motel Association; has served on the President’s Advisory Council; has been an active board member in the Arizona Hotel & Motel Association and served on the Embassy Suites Hotel Franchise Executive Committee. Mr. Rhead is currently active in his community and church, married and the father of six children.

DON DUGUID

Vice Chairman of the Board

With an extensive background in hotel management and operations, Mr. Duguid brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the Paragon team. He joined Paragon in 1970 after working with Desert Enterprise Hotels as Assistant Director of Operations. His current responsibilities include overseeing the direction of the property management team and the accounting services department. During his tenure, Mr. Duguid developed the infrastructure for the operations department while directing the efforts of more than two thousand employees throughout the system. Mr. Duguid coordinated the transition of the diversified properties joining the system and traveled extensively throughout the country seeking new opportunities for Paragon. He was designated a Certified Hotel Administrator in 1988 by the American Hotel & Motel Association and has served on various industry and innkeepers boards over the years. Under Mr. Duguid’s leadership, Paragon hotels have attained nationwide recognition including: Ramada Inn of the Year (finalist), Holiday Inn Award of Excellence, Hotel of the Year and General Manager of the Year (Utah, Wisconsin), Ramada Inn Food Service of the Year, as well as various awards for menu design. Mr. Duguid is active in his community, having held leadership positions in College and High School Booster Clubs, and chairing various committees within his church.

DAVID M. KINGSTON, CHA

President

As President of Operations, Mr. Kingston is responsible for the property operation, revenue management, and business development for Paragon. In addition, he acts as the liaison and coordinator with the various owners of managed properties. Mr. Kingston joined Paragon in 1971 as an internal auditor, and progressed through the increasing responsibilities of chief internal auditor, regional director and divisional vice president of operations before being named Director of Operations in 1990. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology from the State University of New York and was designated as a Certified Hotel Administrator by the American Hotel & Motel Association in 1988. He provides tremendous experience in franchise selection, pre-opening marketing, new hotel operations, hotel conversions and dispositions, operational turn-around, and long range strategic planning. Mr. Kingston has served on advisory boards for Ramada and Holiday Inns. He served as Vice Chairman of the Western Regional Committee for the International Association of Holiday Inns in 1999. He has recently served on the Full Service Committee, Food and Beverage Innovation Committee, Budget Committee and Reservations Sub-Committee for the Association.

Mr. Kingston has participated in all hotel acquisitions, sales and operations since joining the Paragon team. Hotels under his direction, have won numerous local and regional awards.

In addition, Mr. Kingston retired as a Colonel in the Arizona Air National Guard. As a part-time, “citizen soldier” he served as Aircraft Generation Squadron Commander, Security Police Squadron Commander, Maintenance Squadron Commander and Flight Commander of the 197th Air Refueling Squadron. He was promoted to Vice-Commander of the 161st Air Refueling Wing, then to State Headquarters as Plans and Programs Officer for the entire State of Arizona Air National Guard. His awards and decorations include “Outstanding Aircraft Commander”, the Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters and the Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster.
